Sign up for our Learn to Sail course this summer at the Raglan Sailing Club. We offer 5 lessons for $75 per person for both adults and kids

Learn to Sail



Learn to Sail in the beautiful Lorenzen Bay in Raglan, NZ. We offer a Learn to Sail program for $15 per session on Sundays plus membership fees, when the tide is right.

Please note that we only have space for 12 per session, so make sure you sign up to secure your spot!


Covid Protection Framework Policies for RSC at RED

  1. RSC will follow YNZ guidelines for clubs, as well as Sport NZ guidelines, and Ministry of Health guidelines as follows
  2. Club days can run with the following restrictions:
  3. Everyone must scan in to the QR code, and have their vaccine pass (ages 12+) verified before rigging up. Under 12 year olds do not need a pass and they are welcome.
    • Once pass is verified, we will record expiry date so that you do not need to provide your pass again until it expires
  4. RSC encourages people to bring their own lifejackets
  5. Masks will be worn on land while rigging, but do not have to be worn on the water
  6. We encourage sailors to come dressed in their wetsuits already, but the change room and toilet will be open
Our Regular Courses:

Learn to Sail Level 1/2 for Kids

Our Learn to Sail course is designed for kids aged 8 years and older who have never sailed before and have little experience on the water. We teach boat and water safety, and the basics of sailing. By the end of the course participants will be able to sail in a straight line to a point, tack, gybe, and beat upwind. They will also be able to tie a figure 8 knot, and a reef knot.

The cost is $75 for 5 lessons plus membership fees.

Dates for Term 1 lessons are as follows:

January 23rd 12:30-2:30pm

February 20 11:30-1:30pm

March 6th 11:30-1:30pm

March 20th 10:30-12:30pm

April 3rd 9:30-11:30am


Learn to Sail Level 3 for Kids

Our Level 3 course is for kids who have completed our Learn to Sail Level 1 and 2 courses, or the equivalent at another club. In this course we will improve on control and skills, learn how to speed up and slow down, play sailing games like Sail Ball and Sailing Quidditch, and learn how to race. Participants will also learn how to tie a bowline knot, and a round turn with two half hitches knot.

The cost is $45 for 3 lessons plus membership fees and regatta fees. See below for Sailing School Schedule 2021-22

February 5-6th RAGLAN REGATTA 11am briefing

February 19th 11am-1pm

March 5th PICNIC DAY 11am

March 19th 10am-12pm

April 2nd MULTIHULL RACE 10am


Learn to Sail for Adults

Our Learn to Sail course is designed for adults who have never sailed before and have little experience on the water. We teach boat and water safety, and the basics of sailing. By the end of the course participants will be able to sail in a straight line to a point, tack, gybe, and beat upwind. They will also be able to tie a figure 8 knot, a reef knot, a bowline, and a round turn 2 half hitches. They will learn about points of sail, weather conditions, and how to apply dinghy sailing to keeler sailing if applicable. Private lessons also offered on request, contact Kirsten at 021 216 7522 or visit the private lesson booking site.

The cost is $75 for 5 lessons plus membership fees. Private lessons are $50 per hour and you can sign up online and pay online or by cash. See below for Sailing School Schedule 2020-21
